Shipping Policy

All items shipped from my studio are packaged with the utmost care to prevent damage during transit. Unframed art pieces are shipped in rigid mailers to prevent bending, small artwork is packaged with padding, and large framed artworks are packaged in foam padded boxes to keep the artwork secure.

Although all items will be packaged carefully, we also ask that you open your package with care. When opening the box with a blade, please make sure only the tip of the blade is used to avoid slicing into the artwork accidentally.

Should your item become damaged in transit by the postal carrier, please let me know as soon as you receive the item, so I can work with you to resolve the issue.

Cost of Shipping

Customers will be asked to pay for shipping at checkout using the following guidelines:

  • Small to medium items: Items that are small or unframed will be shipped via USPS for domestic and international orders. The cost of the shipping will be automatically calculated at checkout based on the item weight and package dimensions.

  • Large and framed items: Due to the size and nature of large and framed items, a flat shipping rate will be charged. This allows me to pick the best shipping rates so that your item arrives quickly and safely to you. It also helps offset the cost of specialized packaging for the order.

Large and framed items will be noted in the item description under ‘Shipping.’ At checkout, when prompted in the delivery options, you will choose the option for “Framed Painting” that matches the destination country (US, Canada, or UK) to add the flat rate cost to your order. If actual shipping costs are less than the flat rate by $5 or more, we will refund you the excess shipping charge. Flat rate fees on large items are as follows:

  • Domestic: Items shipped to domestic addresses will be shipped via USPS or UPS. The flat rate charged at checkout is $20.

  • International: Items shipped to international addresses will be shipped via USPS Priority Mail International. The flat rate charged at checkout for Canada is $50 and the flat rate for the UK is $100.

International Customs

Items that are shipped to destinations outside of the United States may be subject to VAT and customs charges upon their arrival at the border. These additional costs are the buyer’s responsibility, and The Singing Songbird will not pay for them.

EU, EEA, and Northern Ireland

I currently ship within the United States and internationally to Canada and Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales). Unfortunately, I’m no longer able to ship to countries in the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or to Northern Ireland.

I’m a one-person studio, and I make every piece myself. Two recent EU regulations now apply to anyone selling products to customers in the EU, even small businesses based outside Europe:

  • General Product Safety Regulation (EU 2023/988): Sellers outside the EU must designate a responsible person based in the EU and meet additional product safety documentation and labeling requirements for every item sold.

  • Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (EU 2025/40): Sellers must meet new packaging requirements, including registration, reporting, and fees tied to the packaging used for shipments.

Because of its trade arrangements, Northern Ireland and EEA member countries not in the EU continue to follow EU product rules, so these requirements apply there too.

These regulations were written with environmental and consumer protection goals I respect, but meeting them would require ongoing fees, registrations, and administrative work that a studio my size can’t sustain. Rather than take orders I can’t fulfill properly, I’ve decided to pause sales to these regions.

What does this mean for you?

  • US, Canada, and Great Britain: Nothing changes. I’m happy to ship to you.

  • EU and EEA countries and Northern Ireland: Orders can’t be placed or fulfilled at this time.

  • Everyone: You’re always welcome to browse the shop, follow along on social media, and join my newsletter.

Will this change?

I hope so! If my business grows or the requirements become more manageable, I’d love to reopen to customers in the EU, EEA, and Northern Ireland. The best way to stay updated on these changes is by subscribing to my newsletter.
